We started the week by making bird cakes to help our feathered friends now that the weather is colder.
We then wrote instructions on what we did:
We put the seed in the pot. Then we put fat in. The birds will like it. Leeroy
We scooped bird seed into the pot. We poured fat on. Neko
Having hung the cakes up in our gardens at home, we learned that next time we need to press the seeds more firmly around the string loop so that the cake does not fall off - oops!
Our practising hard for the cross country races paid off. I was SO impressed with how well the children managed and pushed themselves to do as well as they could. Special mentions go to Alaynah, Zoe, Levi G and Chloe who all got medals - congratulations!
This experience fuelled some awesome writing:
I went to run around the goal post. I won a gold medal. Chloe
I was third and I nearly won. I ran to the tree then I ran to the goal post. Haze
I ran around the tree and I ran round the goal post. I was being chased. Ansu
I won the cross country race and someone nearly beat me but I was fast. Levi G
Finally we used the story ‘Down in the forest’ (based on the rhyme ‘Down in the meadow’) to write our own versions. WOW! What amazing poets we have in Room 3!
“Wake”, said the mother.
“We wake”, said the two
And they got out of bed
To see the sky so blue. Ember
“Hide”, said the mother.
“We hide”’ said the ten
Then we saw a nest hide in the tree
Belonging to a hen. Shivali
“Sleep”, said the mother.
“We sleep”’ said the nine.
So they got in the nest
In a very straight line. Alaynah
And possibly a teacher’s favourite….
“Run”, said the mother.
“We run”, said the nine.
So they ran to the shop
To get some wine. Amelia
(I promise I haven’t asked any of the children to do this for me!!!)
